Welcome Aleksander ~ Ames, Iowa Newborn Photographer

Posted on March 30, 2010

As promised, here is another precious little one session!  Alek was such a trooper, and was very cooperative.  He is just a little peanut and I was able to try out one of my props that a larger newborn doesn’t fit into.  It is one of my favorite shots from the day and is included below.  I favored the black and white style for many of these images.  If you are having a baby and would like to schedule your newborn session, now is a great time!  I have a new Little Ones Program that offers a fabulous value on sessions throughout the babies first year.  Please contact me if you are interested in signing up.  Now, for Alek’s images…

There is something very sweet and touching about the total trust a baby has in his/her parents.

Sweet dreams.

He really liked to be all curled up on his tummy like this.

This is probably my favorite shot of the set. This little prop is made of soft, fluffy yarn...but has been too small for most babies to be comfortable in. Alek didn't seem to mind at all though, probably because he was such a little peanut.

I am definitely going to have to get on Etsy again and order another of those little yarn bowls…just a tad bit bigger so it will work for more of the babies.  Alek looks so cute all snuggled up in there!

Welcome Olivia~Des Moines Photographer, Carisa Keeling

Posted on March 18, 2010

Last week I was fortunate enough to do a newborn session for this little beauty.  Olivia is the brand new daughter of my great friends Andy and Kendra.  We have been close for a long time, and to do this session for them was not only an honor, it was a lot of fun.  Little Olivia was probably the most cooperative baby I have worked with yet.  She was also awake way more than expected considering she was only 7 days old.  Andy and Kendra have a great house with lots of natural light, so I got to leave all of my lighting gear in the car (always a good thing).  There is just something about the soft natural light that works really well, especially for newborns.  I hope you enjoy these images from Olivia’s first portrait session.

No, that is not gas...I am smiling

She really just wanted to stretch out. She seemed to enjoy laying on the sheepskin rug.

Ava and Blake~Ames Portrait Photographer

Posted on March 12, 2010

I have been striving for that perfect image of my own two little ones.  You would think as a photographer this would be easy for me, but I have found that photographing my own children is a particularly difficult task.  I am pretty happy with the outcome this time though.  It is amazing, the kids are growing so quickly.  Ava is over 2 and a half now and Blake is 8 months.  I am also testing out a new posting method as I put all of the images into a collage prior to uploading this time.  You will see these images again as I am going to be ordering a large gallery wrap collage using some of these portraits and I can’t wait to share that with you too.

Little Aubrey turns 1~Ames Iowa Portrait Photographer

Posted on March 12, 2010

This is little Aubrey, isn’t she the cutest little thing.  She has the most amazing blue eyes!  Her mommy and daddy are former wedding clients of mine, and now I have gotten to take her portraits too.  I LOVE it when I get that type of opportunity.  I am really hoping to start doing more family and children’s portraits this year, and so far I am off to a decent start.  Keep your eyes peeled, because soon there will be newborn pictures to share!  I am planning two newborn shoots right now and I can’t wait.

Such a serious little one.

I really liked part of this series in black and white. There is just something about the simplicity of a black and white that really gets me.

Who knew feet could be so darn cute?

Isn't she just a precious little diva. And those blue eyes...just adorable.

Many of you know, I am a sucker for the vintage feel. Something old is new again.

Calling Class of 2011~Ames, Iowa Portrait Photographer

Posted on March 10, 2010

Class of 2011, now is the time to be thinking of your senior portraits.  At Carisa Keeling Photography a senior session is about more than just nice pictures.  It is about images that truly capture who you are at this important time in your life.  Here, your session will be planned around your likes and dislikes in things from clothes, backgrounds…even the locations.  I want your senior portrait session to be an experience that you remember.

This year I am going to be starting a CKP Senior Model VIP program.  This is going to be a very limited program with fabulous benefits.  For starters, my models get the VIP session complimentary.  That’s a value of $200.  Models also get the chance to earn product credit to be used towards prints, canvases or even graduation announcements.  Like I said though, this program is going to be exclusive.  Please contact me today if you are interested as spots are sure to fill up quickly.

Ames Wedding Photography~Albums, albums, albums

Posted on March 4, 2010

Good morning everyone!  I have an increasing number of wedding clients that aren’t local to Ames, and I wanted to try and give them a little taste of the different albums that I offer.  I offer three styles of albums.  Of course, seeing the albums first hand and being able to touch them and examine them is the best way to appreciate the differences, but I hope this will give some of you a general idea of the quality of wedding albums that I offer.  Keep in mind, these albums are also great add ons to a portrait session.  They also make cherished memory books for high school seniors and a baby’s first year.

The first is the coffee table book.  These are printed onto heavy weight paper using a 4 color press printed process at a professional printing lab.

This is an image of a coffee table book with an upgraded canvas wrap cover. The texture is hard to see in images of this book, but it is a nice rich looking fine texture.

This is an image showing the binding of the coffee table books. These books lay nearly flat when open.

Coffee table books come standard with a leather cover in several different colors. This one is shown in classic black.

My favorite albums are the fine art line.  These are printed with archival inks and are hand bound to last generations.  The colors in these pages really pop off the page.  This album also offers panoramic spreads, but there is not cut in the middle.

This is an example of a custom designed cover with an upgraded leather trim binding. Notice the great sheen there is on the cover! These are really beautiful albums.

Here is the detail of the binding on the fine art line.

Here is an example of a full spread in a fine art album.

A detail image of the page thickness in the fine art line.

The third album style that I offer is the library bound and it comes in MANY high end cover options.  Currently, I only have the basic black album.  I promise to add some additional images when I get a more exciting sample.  These albums are top of the line and contain real professionally printed photographs, but they are flush mounted to the album pages.  These are albums that are intended to last for generations.  The pages are thicker than either the coffee table style or the fine art style, so the books are sturdy and substantial.

A classic black library style album. This line comes in a HUGE variety of color and material options ranging from silks and brocades to animal-friendly leathers, to rich grained leather.

A spread in a library style album. There is a very small slice between the spreads. This is because the album uses real photographic prints and if you crease a photograph it discolors over time.
