Emily and Eric ~Married~Iowa wedding photography
Posted on September 19, 2012
Why hello everyone?!? Did you wonder if I had forgotten about my blog? Nope…things this time of year just get a little hectic and my blogging suffers under all of the other things like weddings, senior portraits, boudoir session…back to school. Oh…yeah…that was a big one this year! My oldest started kindergarten! Don’t get me started on that…it is hard to see them grow up. She is a wonderful little girl though, and she loves school. I think her favorite part is socializing! I don’t know where she would get that from??
Anyway, I digress. I have something new and exciting to show you all today! Below is a little video I put together for Emily and Eric. It is a new way to show my favorite images from the wedding day and I really like it. Of course, I like the regular blog collages as well…but new and exciting is good too, right?
A little about Emily and Eric…these two are super sweet. They were just fun to be around. I found it charming and adorable how Emily would get the giggles when Eric kissed her…so sweet. Their ceremony was at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. After a fantastic location session on the Iowa State University campus we all headed to the reception at the ISU Alumni Center. This is one of my favorite venues! It is such a beautiful place. The wedding was small and intimate. You could feel that the people who were there really cared about the couple and it showed. Emily and Eric were absolutely beaming!
I hope you enjoyed the little video! Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Damaris and Joinel ~ Married ~ Iowa wedding photographer Carisa Keeling
Posted on August 31, 2012
Damaris and Joinel had a wonderful day for their wedding. They are such a sweet couple and their two little boys are just about the cutest things ever. Vibrant, fun, joyous and faith centered would all be the adjectives I would use for this wonderful wedding. I have never seen such a unique walk down the aisle! The entrance was choreographed and it was not only unique, but beautiful as well. And the dancing…wow…the dancing!
Damaris and Joinel, thank you so much for having me as your photographer for you wedding day! I had such a fabulous time with you guys and I can’t wait to do family sessions with you in the future to watch as the boys grow through the years.

Wow, talk about amazing weather! It was a fabulous and warm day for Michelle and Joe’s wedding in early May. It did rain a bit the night before, so getting Michelle from point A to point B was a little challenging when we were at her parents’ farm before the ceremony…but everything was managed very well. Michelle and Joe are such a sweet couple, very laid back and easy going. You could tell that they were well loved by their friends and family. The beautiful old church was packed for the ceremony and the reception was held at the Santa Maria Winery in Carroll, IA. What a beautiful place for a wedding, simply gorgeous. I must say, the staff there was very friendly and helpful as well. Thank you Michelle and Joe for having me as part of your special day! It was a privilege to work with you and your families.

Not only were Jill and Levi such a wonderful couple to work with, their friends and family were amazing as well. Jill and Levi live half the country away (well, maybe not quite that far…but pretty close) and Jill’s mom and sister were very instrumental in getting things here in Iowa planned and coordinated. It is a rare thing for me, but I didn’t even meet Levi until the wedding day! There were two things that I really loved about working with these two: their unique individuality and their willingness to give me so much time to work with on their wedding day! We spent very little time on the formal portraits and the majority at several locations around Boone doing some fun and unique portraits that really capture their personalities well.
It is so critical to be sure that you work through a timeline with your wedding photographer. A good photographer can give you great images even in a time crunch, but if you give that same person a little more time…perfection can happen!

Rebeka and Scott~married~Ames, IA wedding photographer Carisa Keeling

Rebeka and Scott had a beautiful fall wedding and were such a joy to work with. So many details and everything went so smoothly! You can tell that these two are in love and they really enjoyed their day. The Iowa State University campus is such a fantastic spot for a location session between the ceremony and the reception. This trend to take photos between the ceremony and reception is something that I am really enjoying. The bride and groom (as well as the rest of the wedding party) are so much more relaxed once the ceremony is completed and the fun can really begin.

I do so love fall weddings! The weather, the colors…just fabulous! The wedding of Talya and Sean was another fantastic occasion that I was oh-so-fortunate to be a part of. I know I have said it before, but I really do have the most amazing clients. The funny thing is that these two lived just down the street (in the other direction) from us when we were in Ames too! There were so many details of this wedding that Talya put together herself. From decorations, to centerpieces, to the cupcakes they served. This wedding really captured the style and personality of these two and it was a great outdoor location at the Iowa 4-H center.
If you or someone you know is getting married and is looking for a photographer be sure to contact me. I am pretty much full up for 2012, but am booking 2013 dates now. I do a very limited number of weddings each year, so be sure to get your date in early!

Jacki and Nick~married~Carisa Keeling, Des Moines wedding photographer

Over the next few weeks I am going to be posting some re-caps from my last several months. I have been bad about getting my blog posts up lately and I am determined to catch up. I have so many fabulous weddings and portrait sessions to share with you! So I am going to start with the wedding of Jacki and Nick, two very sweet and amazing people who just happened to live just down the road from me…well, they did until we moved this past summer! This wedding was a joy to behold, both Jacki and Nick are very laid back and quick to smile. This was a small and intimate wedding that was put together beautifully. I also got to enjoy plenty of time with the two of them during the day so we got a wide variety of amazing images. What follows below is just a small portion of my favorite images from the day.

Kate and Ben ~ An Ames, Iowa wedding
Posted on September 28, 2011
Kate and Ben had a fantastic…but WARM day for their wedding. Everyone was such good sports though and despite the heat we had a great time and have many fantastic images to show for it. Below are a few of my favorites from the day. There are two images in the collage from my fantastic second photographer for the day: Cassie Scott of Garnet Photography. I really encourage my couple to go with the second photographer option if it works for their budget…so many times that Cassie (or any of my other second photographers) are able to get a second angle that really adds to the coverage of the day. I offer collection with assistants and with second photographers, both are great options and I would be happy to discuss the differences with you if you are looking for a photographer for your upcoming wedding.
Anywho…back to the details! Kate and Ben were married at the Iowa State Memorial Union in the Great Hall. What a fabulous space! The ceremony was held, we did a short session in the Great Hall and then we headed outside to the ISU campus for a location session while the MU staff “flipped” the hall to reception mode. Due to the heat and the ready availability of a party bus the wedding party decided to take a little trip over to Olde Main Brewing Company in downtown Ames. I am simply in love with their staircase…the light…the angles…photographic sweetness!

Lisa and Joe ~ A Des Moines wedding
Posted on September 21, 2011
Lisa and Joe are quite possibly two of the sweetest people I have ever met, and I know a lot of sweet people! We had a wonderful summer day for their wedding, not too hot and just the right amount of sun and clouds. The ceremony was at St. Mary of Nazareth in Des Moines with the reception following at the Hyperion Field Club. Both of these venues are beautiful places to photograph in…combine that with such a fantastic couple and it was truly a magical day. St. Mary’s has some fabulous old trees that are wonderful and create a bit of a fairytale kind of mood. One of the groomsmen happened to have a football in his car…so we used that for a few images. I love how Joe is so into the football thing in the images! They had a sweet little candy buffet that coordinated perfectly with their colors of yellow and grey…very cute! Then of course there were the center pieces which Lisa and a few helpers designed and put together themselves. This was a fabulous wedding and I really enjoyed the day. I am trying out some new software for creating the image collages for the blog…let me know what you think of it.
